Alkinoos Ioannidis, born in Nicosia, Cyprus, studied classical guitar at the European Conservatory before moving to Athens, Greece, in 1989. There, he pursued theater studies at the National Theatre Drama School and philosophy at Athens University. In 1993, he signed with Universal Music, launching his career as a singer-songwriter. Since then, he has released eleven solo albums, many of which achieved gold or platinum status. He has also contributed as a guest vocalist on over 40 albums with various artists, composed and arranged music for other musicians, and created music for dance and theater. His symphonic compositions are frequently performed by orchestras both in Greece and internationally. His influences span traditional Cypriot music, modern Greek composers, Byzantine, classical, and rock genres.
In live performances, Ioannidis is known for either leading a band composed of top Greek soloists or performing solo, showcasing his multi-instrumental talents. He gives up to 100 concerts annually, playing venues that range from large open-air theaters and concert halls to intimate clubs, ancient amphitheaters, and contemporary rock stages. His live shows blend diverse musical styles, incorporating electric music with chamber orchestras, rock bands with choirs, and live looping, creating a dynamic fusion of rock, jazz, classical, Greek, and Middle Eastern elements.
In 2005, he studied composition under the legendary Russian composer Boris Tishchenko at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. In November 2009, the Dmitri Shostakovich Academic Symphony Orchestra and the "Lege Artis" choir performed Ioannidis’s music at the Conservatory's Glazunov Hall, a concert he dedicated to his mentor. His classical works were also performed at Berlin's Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal in April 2010 by the Camerata Europaea and Ernst Senf Chor, and in Athens in October 2010 with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. His compositions were the opening concert of Russia’s "White Nights" Festival in May 2011, performed by the Karelia Philharmonic Orchestra. Subsequent performances of his work took place with the Ermitage Symphony Orchestra in St. Petersburg in 2012 and the Thüringer Symphoniker in Germany in 2013.
Ioannidis has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as The Charles Lloyd New Quartet, The Absolute Ensemble (New York), The Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, The Greek Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra, The Athens Camerata, The Cypriot State Orchestra, The Greek State Orchestra, The Thessaloniki State Orchestra, The Camerata Europaea, The Manos Hadjidakis Ensemble, The Yiannis Markopoulos Palintonos Armonia, and The Mikis Theodorakis Popular Orchestra.
Beyond music, he has acted in prominent roles at the ancient theater of Epidaurus in 1993, 1997, and 2013, as well as in television and film. He has also composed for theater productions in France, Russia, Greece, and Cyprus.
Among his varied pursuits, he is a flutist, percussionist, and vocalist in the avant-garde group FMS (Friends of Miltos Sahtouris). Since December 2010, he has served on the board of the Athens Concert Hall. Additionally, he conducts annual creative writing seminars for postgraduate literature students at Florina University and other institutions.
Over the past twenty years, Ioannidis has given more than 1,700 concerts in Greece and Cyprus, as well as 100 international performances.
